Slab Pour

After the rubbish weather of the past week, Melbourne put on a beautiful spring day for our slab pour - not a cloud in the sky or a breath of wind.

They started at sunrise and were done by 2pm. They seemed like a nice bunch, and their attention to detail seemed pretty good compared to some of the other slabs I have seen done around here.

Formwork for slab

The slab is meant to be poured tomorrow, and at the start of the day there was still no formwork in place. I was curious as to how they were going to do it all in 1 day. As it happened they were complete by 1pm.

In case you were wondering this is a waffle pod slab, which are now all the rage around here.

Our private building inspector that we have engaged to keep the builder honest arrived at 2:30pm, and found quite a few defects that needed to be fixed. Nothing major like errors in the layout and connection to the piers, but things like steel touching the pods, ground and formwork in places, missing spacers and ties, insufficient overlap etc etc. These were all things that should have been done right the first time, and they spent the rest of the afternoon fixing them

Gravel for slab

Today everything was coated with a layer of gravel.
Progress has been pretty slow the last week or 2

Screw piles are in

Screw piles have gone in, not much other process this week. They reckon they will be pouring the  slab in a week, which means a lot of work this week.

Builders closed for holidays

Officially the builders are closed for their holidays, but apparently some of the subcontractors will still be working, specifically the out...
